What is Seasonal Yoga?
Seasonal Yoga is inspired by ancient Chinese and Indian health systems. It is a gentle practice for all abilities, specifically designed to send energy flowing through the meridian lines (energy pathways of the body).
From a physical viewpoint, the practice revitalizes our systems and organs which have energies corresponding to different seasons of the year - putting the mind and body where it is supposed to be - in harmony with nature. By making Seasonal Yoga and mindfulness an integral part of our lives, we will be protecting our health and enhancing our energy.
With the rising dependency adults and young people have on fast-paced technology, we need to counterbalance this with education of nature’s timings, rhythms and natural cycles.
Laura explains: “We are a part of nature, so to continually work against these natural rhythms can create both stress, disease or indicate we are out of balance.
Practicing Seasonal Yoga on a regular basis improves flexibility, balance and physical strength. It helps people to control and manage own energy levels and also improves physical and mental awareness”.
What is Shamanism?
Shamanism is all about working with nature and the seasons, utilising the energy field that pervades all things in a way that disregards linear time and seeks to regain information and insight, harnessing the ability to span time, to gain meaning to our spirits and heart’s purpose.
As a boy, Nigel spent a great deal of time in the heart of the forests around his home learning the language of the trees, the animals and the earth itself.
Nigel explains: “Nature is communicating with us on many levels in a very real way, on both a physical level and a cellular level. The energy emanating from all things and originating from the light of the sun, is available for us to work with.
We ask for blessings by the energy of the four winds, the great spirit, and mother earth; using natural relaxation methods, drumming and journeying, where you may meet your power animals who could give you inspirations and insight into many aspects of your life, both this life, past lives and even future lives.’
Teachers
Laura Wills
Seasonal Yoga Teacher
From a young age, I have practiced yoga and meditation and had a fascination with the mind-body connection. As a young adult, I often found myself looking for ways I could explore my own personal and spiritual development. This desire was partly out of my own intense struggles with anxiety during my early adult life as a busy mum and actress - while I could perform on stage in front of hundreds of people I felt anxiety on a daily basis about the smallest of things!
I found that once I started practicing yoga and mindfulness on a regular basis, I was able to start to manage my anxiety really effectively. The practice of yoga and meditation has evolved for me now. More than just helping me with the anxiety, I am experiencing it now as a path that lights my way, a journey of discovery and a tool for my own spiritual and personal growth.
Yoga is now a huge part of my life. I am privileged in that I now teach yoga to adults and children of all ages and abilities.
Nigel Bird
Seasonal Yoga Teacher and Master Therapist of NLP
I fell in love with Yoga after hanging my Rugby boots up following a 30 year career and possessing a body stiff enough to prove it. After a few years of marathon running and triathlon my body was rebelling. It was time for something to help ease my body back in line.
Yoga was the perfect medicine. I started going to yoga classes where my amazing teacher saw my teaching potential and encouraged me to embark on a lengthy training that massively changed my body and my mind. I became a teacher! I knew I had a mission to help current and ex-players repair their bodies, help prevent further injury and aid game recovery times. I hasten to add it works with all sports and anyone else for that matter!
I am a 200hr trained seasonal yoga and meditation instructor. I am also a fully qualified clinical hypnotherapist and master practitioner of NLP (neuro-linguistic programming). I have been studying hypnosis and NLP since qualifying at the American Board of Hypnotherapy and NLP in 2005 and have helped over a thousand clients with various difficulties, including habits, emotional problems, overeating and unconscious physical behaviours.
I have an extensive and passionate background in sports, including Rugby and athletics. I have coached in both Rugby and athletics and have trained as a Triathlete and marathon runner. I credit as one of my greatest achievements running 52 marathons in a year for the NSPCC in 2014! As a child, I always had a keen interest in spending time in and connecting with nature and our natural environment. More recently, I have been training with the Four Winds society led by anthropologist Alberto Villoldo in the practice of shamanic energy medicine.
